Need for degreasing
Bell Hammer Metal Grease performs best when it forms a strong lubricating film directly on the metal surface. If hydraulic oil or large amounts of old grease remain, the film may not adhere properly, reducing effectiveness.
However, degreasing is not mandatory—it is recommended. Even with some residual oil or grease, a certain level of lubrication performance will still be achieved.
For bearings
・Complete degreasing is not required. If removing all old grease is difficult, you can refill directly without issue.
・Be aware that mixing different greases may cause inconsistency in hardness or base oil compatibility.
Recommended method
・For new applications or when maximum performance is desired: clean and degrease as much as possible before applying.
・For refilling or periodic maintenance: simply add the new grease while pushing out the old one.
Summary
Degreasing is not essential but improves film adhesion and lubrication stability. Light cleaning before application provides the best overall performance.
